NEW YORK - Tiger Woods' mother is so crazy about her son's girlfriend that she has given her blessing for the couple to get married, according to the Star magazine.

Woods' latest squeeze, 22-year-old Elin Nordegren, has not only tamed the US Open champion but has also hit a hole-in-one with his protective mum, Kultida Woods, a source reportedly tells the Star.

'Elin is the first woman Tiger has dated whom his mother approves of,' reveals a golf insider. 'Kultida always felt Tiger's girlfriends didn't treat her with respect.'

His mother's greatest fear has always been that Woods, 26, who is worth US$150 million (S$265.5 million), would fall prey to a greedy woman who is only after his money.

But Nordegren comes from a family of high achievers. Her father is a Swedish broadcaster and her mother is a political adviser. That affluent background has put Woods' mother at ease.

'Now, Elin and Kultida often share breakfast together when they're on the road with Tiger,' the insider adds.

Woods met Nordegren at last year's British Open and fell in love with the Swedish beauty who was a nanny for golfer Jesper Parnevik's children.

However, it is anybody's guess when the wedding, if any, will take place.

'Although Tiger and Elin haven't set a date yet, his mum is buzzing with excitement about helping to plan a big ceremony,' said a family insider.
